California elementary and middle school students in kindergarten through eighth grades are eligible to participate in the 21st Annual Safe & Wise Water Ways Poster Contest.
One entry from each grade level will be selected to appear on the 2014 Safe & Wise Water Ways boating safety calendar. Each winning student will also receive a new, Coast Guard-approved life jacket!
All entries must be postmarked by Thursday, October 31, 2013.
Results will be posted January 2014 on BoatSmarter.com.
Students may use construction paper plain bond paper, drawing paper or art board. Crayons, felt pens, colored chalks, paints, water colors and grease pencils may be used. Artwork is not limited to these materials—student creativity is encouraged!
The contest theme is “Safe & Wise Water Ways.” Entries must be original and should depict safe boating and aquatic activities. Messages and lettering should be large and bold enough to reproduce digitally.
The back of each entry must clearly list the student’s name, grade level, school name, teacher’s name / contact information. Omission of this information will disqualify an entry. (Poster Labels may be downloaded and printed here.)

California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) invites you to participate in the 21st Annual Safe & Wise Water Ways Poster Contest! All California students in kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to participate. The primary goal of this contest is to educate students to be safe and wise when in or near the water.
One winner from each grade level will be selected to have their winning artwork displayed on the 2014 water and boating safety calendar, which will be distributed to schools, boating safety partners and boating enthusiasts throughout the state. Additionally, the winning artwork will be displayed at the California State Capitol during the 2014 boating season. All winning students will also receive a new, Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
