Eligibility
California elementary and middle school students in kindergarten through eighth grades are eligible to participate in the 20th Annual Safe & Wise Water Ways Poster Contest.

Acknowledgements
One entry from each grade level will be selected to appear on the 2013 Safe & Wise Water Ways boating safety calendar. Each winning student will also receive a new, Coast Guard-approved life jacket!

Deadline
All entries must be postmarked by Friday, October 19, 2012.

Winner Notification
Results will be posted January 2013 on BoatSmarter.com.

Materials
Students may use construction paper plain bond paper, drawing paper or art board. Crayons, felt pens, colored chalks, paints, water colors and grease pencils may be used. Artwork is not limited to these materials—student creativity is encouraged!

Submission Requirements
The contest theme is “Safe & Wise Water Ways.” Entries must be original and should depict safe boating and aquatic activities. Messages and lettering should be large and bold enough to reproduce digitally.

The back of each entry must clearly list the student’s name, grade level, school name, teacher’s name / contact information. Omission of this information will disqualify an entry. (Poster Labels may be downloaded and printed here.)

An Entry Form must accompany each set of entries. Please make sure all information requested on the form is accurate and legible. An incomplete or unsigned entry form will disqualify the set of entries. (Entry forms may also be downloaded here.)

Disclaimer
All entries become the exclusive property of the California Department of Boating and Waterways. The department has the right to display or otherwise use the submissions for future reproduction. Poster entries cannot be returned. Suggestion: Take pictures of the artwork prior to submission.

Size
Pictures must be no smaller than 8 1/2” x 11” and no larger than 16” x 20”.
