Join the Colorado Desert Archaeology Society for a talk by retired Professor of History George Harwood Phillips about conflicts between early American settlers and Native Americans leading to the pan-Indian Garra Revolt of 1851. This coordinated uprising sent shockwaves throughout the state. Martial law was declared in San Diego while in Los Coyotes Canyon a band of Cahuillas engaged troops sent out to put down the Revolt. A State Park monument at the Santa Catarina parking area in the Canyon commemorates this uprising. The meeting will be held in the Discovery Lab at the Anza-Borrego Park Visitor Center; the public is invited.
